چکیده

-1. Panagrellus redivivus, Turbatrix aceti and Caenorhabditis elegans were sterilely propagated in semidefined media containing sitosterol or cholesterol, and sterols were isolated and identified by capillary gas-liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. 2. Each species was capable of removal of the C-24 ethyl substituent of sitosterol and production of 4x -methylsterols. 3. Other modifications of the sterol nucleus varied among the species, as only T. aceti and C. elegans introduced AT-and A~14)-bonds significantly. 4. P. redivivus and, to a much lesser extent, 7". aceti reduced AS-bonds to produce substantial quantities of cholestanol and 4~-methylcholestanol.

24-Methyl-23-dehydrocholesterol: a new sterol intermediate in C-24 demethylation from the nematodes Panagrellus redivivus and Caenorhabditis elegans?

Panagrellus redivivus produced 24-methyl-23-dehydrocholesterol as 4.0% of the 4-desmethylsterols when propagated in a medium containing campesterol as the dietary sterol. The re-examination of previous data revealed that Caenorhabditis elegans produced 1.8% 24-methyl-23-dehydrocholesterol when propagated in medium containing campesterol. 24-Methyl-23-dehydrocholesterol was not detected when the...

Aminopeptidases in Caenorhabditis elegans and Panagrellus redivivus: detection using peptide and non-peptide substrates.

Aminopeptidase activities were detected in extracts of the free-living nematodes Caenorhabditis elegans and Panagrellus redivivus using the aminoacyl substrate L-alanine-4-nitroanilide. The activities exhibited similarities in Km (C. elegans = 2.22 mM; P. redivivus = 2.09 mM) and specific activity (C. elegans = 1.38 +/- 0.43 mAU min(-1) x g(-1); P. redivivus, 1.23 +/- 0.18m AU min(-1) microg(-1...

Different roads to form the same gut in nematodes.

The morphogenesis of a gut from the endoderm has been well studied among the animal kingdom and is also well described in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. But are there other ways to build a nematode intestine? Sulston et al. (1983) described a different intestinal cell lineage in the species Panagrellus redivivus and Turbatrix aceti that includes two programmed cell deaths. However, no det...

Sex-specific mating pheromones in the nematode Panagrellus redivivus.

Nematodes use an extensive chemical language based on glycosides of the dideoxysugar ascarylose for developmental regulation (dauer formation), male sex attraction, aggregation, and dispersal. However, no examples of a female- or hermaphrodite-specific sex attractant have been identified to date. In this study, we investigated the pheromone system of the gonochoristic sour paste nematode Panagr...

Characterization of Aminopeptidase in the Free-living Nematode Panagrellus redivivus: Subcellular Distribution and Possible Role in Neuropeptide Metabolism.

Aminopeptidase was detected in homogenates of the free-living nematode Panagrellus redivivus with the aminoacyl substrate L-alanine-4-nitroanilide. Subcellular distribution of activity was 80% soluble and 20% membrane-associated. Aminopeptidases in the two fractions differed in affinity for Ala-4-NA, with Km's of 0.65 mM (soluble) and 2.90 mM (membrane). Specific activities (units/mg) at pH 7.8...
